Sun: Pledges? We doan need no steenkin' fancy pledges

Groklaw notes that Sun may be leaning towards permitting their 1600 patents to be used for any open source development, not just those with CDDL licensing.

This puts a slightly different perspective on Jonathan's recent post in which he claims that IBM's contribution of 500 patents to open source is not what it appears.

I am glad to see that Sun is listening, and hopeful that they will respond positively by allowing their 1600 patents to be used for any open source project that meets the criteria in the OSI definition, just as IBM has already done.
